True Humanity Is About Being An Animal

If you’re a proud cat dad or dog mom and you just can’t imagine your life without your pets, jump on board! And let’s be honest, they’re not just pets. They’re family; our babies.

“Animals are such agreeable friends―they ask no questions, they pass no criticisms.”

– George Eliot

True Humanity Is About Being An Animal _ Unfailing Freedom

Ever since I was a little girl, I loved animals with all my heart and I truly believe they can teach us a thing or two about life. Till this day, I can’t imagine life without my dogs – those who are no longer here and those who still are.

It’s because of this love I have for my dogs that I’m often reminded of the world that doesn’t share this sentiment. And as much as I only want to share funny and cute stories about animals, my heart is heavy with sadness today.

On days like today when I’m reminded of how cruel humans can be, I wish I could kick reality in the face. For the life of me, I cannot understand how someone can abandon or abuse an animal.

All of these emotions were awoken after once again seeing all the pets living in shelters. Each of them deserves a home, but we – the humans (allegedly one of the smartest species) – take away their opportunity of a loving home because we fail to take responsibility. We fail to take care of them because we put our selfish needs before theirs.

A dog or cat is more than a Christmas present or a way of making money. They’re a commitment! A being that needs love and care; a being carrying a soul. I wish every day the world will realise that each animal on earth has as much right to live a happy life like you and me.

“If having a soul means being able to feel love and loyalty and gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of humans.”

– James Herriot

If we take the time to learn and understand from animals, we – as humans – will start doing the term “humanity” justice. Even though animals can appear cruel when they hunt and kill their prey, humans can be merciless when they believe the reward justifies their means.

Animals are love and we can learn from them how to become a better person. And if you get dragged down by reality like I’ve been today, don’t let it stop you from helping. Even though I feel like sticking my head in the sand, we must do what we can. Every gesture, big or small, makes a difference!

“Saving one dog will not change the world, but surely for that one dog, the world will change forever.”

– Karen Davison
