A focused 2018

Last year taught me about the wonder of giving. I was reminded that if you want to change the world for the better, you have to change yourself first; to be the change. But what about the things I can’t change?

Being the controlling person that I am, it has always been difficult to let things go I cannot change. It’s still difficult. One of the most difficult things to accept is the fact that not all people can see the bigger picture in life. You know who I’m talking about, right? It’s those who are convinced that you’re wrong or broken if you’re different from them.

Even though I know that people like this won’t change, I still need to learn how to stop it from getting me down and anxious. So this is why my word for the year is: focus. To focus my energy on choices that steers me towards positivity and growth.

When confronted with problems, we can either obsessively analyse and complain about the problem or we can focus our attention on finding a solution. Many of life’s greatest challenges were solved by people who were focused and unwilling to complain.

“Don’t dwell on what went wrong. Instead, focus on what to do next. Spend your energies on moving forward toward finding the answer.”
